Match point!!! where is match point?

  • Mickey M. Ray 4 semanas ago

Oh yeah, and David Lynch! He doesn't seem interested in making any more movies at all!

How come Woody has been able to make SO MANY movies? Does he have a crew of elves and dwarfs doing all the work? My fave director, Federico Fellini, didn't make nearly so many movies. Oh well, I guess some artists paint slowly, and other artists paint fast!

Crimes and Misdemeanors should have been much higher on this list

Bullets over broadway and Mighty Aphrodite are my favorites

I would put MATCH POINT, at least in the honorable mentions

"Crimes and Misdemeanors" is by far Woody's most complete and best film. Then were are "Mighty Aphrodite" and "Deconstructing Harry"?

    ZELIG UNDER HYPNOSIS
    I’m 12 years old.
    I run into a Synagogue.
I ask the Rabbi the meaning of life.
He tells me the meaning of life…
But, he tells it to me in Hebrew.
    I don't understand Hebrew.
Then he wants to charge me six hundred dollars for Hebrew lessons.”

Everything works so good with midnight in Paris; screenplay, Paris, characters, and Marion Cotillard. I can watch this movie over and over, it's so good.

Glaring omissions: Bullets Over Broadway, Match Point, Alice and Radio Days. Glaring admission: Stardust Memories, one of his most solipsistic and unbearable movies. Not autobiographical? That's hysterical. Who are we kidding? The clips shown don't even include the damaged female lead. Fail. At least Broadway Danny Rose got an honorable mention. I'm including the honorable mentions as picks. Cassandra's Dream should be one. So should Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy, Manhattan Murder Mystery, and Mighty Aphrodite.

    My top 5 favorites are:

Stardust Memories (no a failure in my eyes), Matchpoint, Deconstructing Harry, Manhattan, Love and Death, bonus September (see more above).

Not sure of the order except Stardust Memories is #1.

Vicky Christina Barcelona, Midnight in Paris plus Hanna and her Sisters brings my list up to nine.

Let's add Everything About Sex for 10.

I don't remember anything about Cassandra's Dream except that I think I liked it. I like that thing that Adi Ludi Shadowspeaker claims doesn't exist: an Allen film that doesn't seem like an Allen film (no Allen character for instance).

You will meet a Tall Dark Stranger also has this quality.

I think reviewer said that this movie illustrates Allen's moral relativism. He doesn't believe that being a good person will necessarily be rewarded. Or vice versa. Match play as a chilling dramatization of that.

Matchpoint is a chilling dramatization of that. And, yeah, itrw, it's kind of disturbing that Allen is a moral relativist, if that's accurate interpretation and it seems to be.

I love how Allen processed his public fall from grace with the portrait of dizzyingly pathological Harry. Played by himself.

A new, less cuddly iteration of the self rationalizing seemingly harmless because self effacing narcissist hes played in previous movies. I say narcissist for instance because at the end of Manhattan it's clear that he doesn't deeply care which woman he ends up with, so long as he doesn't end up empty handed.
